As noted two of the more common trucks in DAK* service were the Opel Blitz 3 ton and the Mercedes. Captured vehicles included all of the types named in the post as well as French Citroen trucks. Two additional German types used extensively for supply work in Africa are the so-called ‘Cameo’ Ford (the 918G I believe) and the Ford V3000. You sometimes also see Italian Lancia RO3s in a supply role but not often.
In North Africa truck convoys from rear-area ports to Rommel’s Italo-German panzer army consumed almost as much fuel as they delivered. Rommel was promised some 5,400 tons of trucking should Barbarossa (the invasion of USSR-1941) be successful.
